Privacy policy

Short version: we do not want your personal data and we have gone out of our way not to collect it. The calculator runs entirely in your browser.

Who is responsible for your data

What we collect

There is no account system on this site. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or postal address, and there is nowhere on the site to give them to us.

What you type into the calculator never leaves your browser. The weight, unit and karat you enter are used by JavaScript running on your own device to do arithmetic against a published price file. Nothing is transmitted to us, stored on our servers, or logged. We could not tell you what anyone has ever calculated, because we never receive it.

Our web server keeps standard access logs, which is unavoidable for a site to function. These contain your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser's user-agent string and the referring page. They are used for security and diagnostics, are not combined with any other data to identify you, and are retained for a limited period before deletion.

Cookies and third parties

We set one first-party cookie of our own, which records your cookie consent choice so we do not ask again on every page. It is strictly necessary and cannot be refused without breaking the consent mechanism itself. Full details are in our cookie policy.

Advertising

This site displays advertising served by Google and its partners. Google and third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on that activity. These cookies are only set after you consent.

Analytics

Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.

We do not sell personal information and we do not knowingly share it for cross-context behavioral advertising beyond the advertising cookies described above, which you can refuse outright. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Retention and international transfers

Server logs are retained only as long as needed for security and diagnostics, then deleted. The consent cookie expires 180 days after your choice. We hold no other data to retain.

Our advertising partners are global and may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where those transfers involve personal data of EEA or UK residents, the partners rely on their own safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially — for example if we add analytics or activate an affiliate program — we will update this page and change the date below. Where the change requires it, we will ask for your consent again.
